A PERFECT CIRCLE – ‘Starless’ Video Documents the Song’s London Live Debut

A PERFECT CIRCLE have released a video of the first live performance of ‘Starless,’ captured at their sold-out London show this summer. Filmed by Jon Vulpine and Justin Jones and edited by Jake Johnston, the video arrives as the single spends its second consecutive week at No. 1 on Active Rock radio, according to the band’s October 13 announcement from Speakeasy PR.

Vocalist Maynard James Keenan addressed the relationship between the recordings and their concert versions when the single was released: ‘Of course I’m excited to release the recordings, but our songs always take on an expanded personality once we start playing them live.’ The new footage presents the song at that first live outing.

The studio recording was made at guitarist Billy Howerdel’s Lankershim Ranch Studio in Studio City, California. Howerdel produced ‘Starless,’ with mixing by Matty Green, whose credits include U2, Florence + the Machine and TV on the Radio. Longtime collaborator Josh Freese plays drums on the track.

‘Some songs get kicked around and massaged for years,’ Howerdel said. ‘But once in a while, one takes shape quickly, as if it had been there all along.’ A PERFECT CIRCLE also recently released ‘To Whom It May Concern.’ The announcement describes that song as a counterpoint to the more muscular ‘Starless.’

The band resume their global tour on November 25 in Mexico City, followed by stops in Brazil, Argentina and Chile before traveling through Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Hawaii. Their 2027 North American leg begins April 13 in Vancouver and concludes June 13 in Phoenix. PUSCIFER join the April 13–25 dates, with THE CULT joining from April 27 through June 13. Tickets are on sale through the band’s official website.

A PERFECT CIRCLE were formed in 1999 by Howerdel and Keenan. Their platinum-selling debut, Mer de Noms, arrived in 2000, debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and included ‘Judith,’ ‘3 Libras’ and ‘The Hollow.’ Subsequent albums include Thirteenth Step (2003), eMOTIVe (2004) and Eat the Elephant (2018), which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200.

The band’s performance history includes festival headlining appearances, sold-out shows at the Hollywood Bowl, Madison Square Garden and Red Rocks Amphitheatre, and television appearances on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ and ‘The Tonight Show.’ The supplied band photograph is credited to Travis Shinn.
