A video for the new version of CATHEDRAL’s ‘Edwige's Eyes’ accompanies the announcement of The Guessing Game (Rethink). Rise Above Records has announced the remixed album for October 30.
Longtime collaborator Jaime Gomez Arellano completely remixed the album from its original masters. The new edition incorporates alternate takes and extended song versions across five sides of vinyl. The announcement describes the mix as more cohesive, stripped-down, raw and powerful, with the expanded presentation giving the tracks additional room.
The decision to revisit the recordings followed the return of the recording rights to CATHEDRAL. According to the announcement, the band had been satisfied with the original production but felt the mix fell short. Returning to the masters offered an opportunity to bring the recordings closer to the sound they had envisioned.
The Guessing Game, CATHEDRAL’s ninth studio album, originally appeared through Nuclear Blast in 2010 as a double-disc set. It was produced by three-time Grammy Award winner Warren Riker, whose credits cited in the announcement include Fugees, Down, M People, Destiny’s Child and COC.
The announcement characterizes the original album as an overlooked part of CATHEDRAL’s catalogue, with a broad musical range and distinct approaches from song to song. The Guessing Game (Rethink) revisits that material through the new mix and expanded versions. Pre-orders are available through Rise Above Records.
