CLEGANE’s third album, Ocean of Black Thoughts, brings together six tracks from the French doom/grunge metal trio. The announcement presents the complete record following “Sun Decay” and “Mutt,” placing those songs within an album concerned with anxiety, addiction and depression.
According to the supplied press announcement, the record gives greater prominence to the vocals while developing more compact song structures and a broader musical range. Its description emphasizes a stronger grunge element alongside the band’s doom foundation, with both direct passages and slower-building arrangements.
The announcement connects “Sun Decay” with the suffocating streets of Paris and describes “Mutt” through revenge and the blurring of victim and tormentor. Musically, it characterizes “Sun Decay” as combining stoner and noise elements, while identifying a blues influence in “Luminose.” “A Room Full of Strangers” is described as building gradually, with the title track providing the album’s closing descent.
Formed in the Paris region, CLEGANE previously released Funeral at Sea and White of the Eye. The announcement positions Ocean of Black Thoughts as a continuation of that work with more concise and varied writing, retaining the trio format and its combination of doom and grunge.
Olivier Millot mixed the album, returning after his earlier work on CLEGANE’s first EP. Thibault Chaumont handled mastering at Deviant Lab.
The announcement also credits visual artist Tib Gordon with the handmade artwork. It describes the new visual identity as a departure from the presentation of the band’s previous releases while maintaining Gordon’s continuing involvement.
