An animated lyric video created by Lee Gregory at ILoveMotion accompanies MOTÖRHEAD’s Built For Speed (Cameron Webb 40th Anniversary Remix). The song is the second single from Webb’s new mix of the complete Orgasmatron album, made from the original multitracks for its 40th anniversary edition.

Featuring Lemmy’s bass and vocals, “Built For Speed” became part of MOTÖRHEAD’s live repertoire alongside “Deaf Forever” and the album’s title track. The new video presents the song ahead of the anniversary edition’s November 6 release.

Webb approached the recordings with an emphasis on preserving their character. Producer Bill Laswell and engineer Jason Corsaro’s original work remained a reference throughout the process.

“I love the fact that the original is wild and a little messy,” Webb said. “I wanted to be respectful to what Jason Corsaro and Bill Laswell created, rather than simply trying to make it sound like a modern heavy metal record. When we opened up the original 24-track tapes, you could really hear how creative they were with the sounds, particularly the drums. There’s so much character in that recording, and I wanted to preserve that.”

The MOTÖRHEAD team said the project grew from a discussion about hearing Webb’s interpretation alongside Laswell’s original production. According to the team, Lemmy and Phil Campbell had felt that the original mix lost some of the recording’s power, bite and energy. Webb, who helmed six MOTÖRHEAD studio albums, accepted the invitation to revisit it.

His decisions also drew on his experience working with the musicians. Webb explained: “I tried to channel what I knew about them and their approach to recording — bringing out the bass here, defining the guitars there — while still respecting what was already there. The aim was never to replace the original, but to reveal more of what was inside it.”

The album also has a personal history for Webb: his brother introduced him to Orgasmatron when he was 14. He recalled hearing the title song and wondering, “Is this even music?” He described it as “like the devil coming through my cassette tape,” adding that he loved it. Orgasmatron and Rock ’N’ Roll were the MOTÖRHEAD records he grew up with, making the remix assignment particularly meaningful to him.

Originally released in 1986, Orgasmatron featured Lemmy, Phil Campbell, Würzel and Pete Gill. Its songs combined hard rock, heavy metal and punk influences, retaining the band’s speed and aggression while moving into heavier territory.

The anniversary project includes a remaster of the original studio recordings, cut at half speed from the original tapes, as well as Webb’s new remix and remaster from the original multitracks.

The deluxe 3LP bookpack and 2CD editions contain both album mixes, studio rehearsals and outtakes, and the complete 1986 BBC Radio 1 Friday Rock Show session. A separate transparent violet 1LP edition contains the remastered original studio album.

Both album mixes follow the original nine-song sequence:

  1. Deaf Forever
  2. Nothing Up My Sleeve
  3. Ain't My Crime
  4. Claw
  5. Mean Machine
  6. Built For Speed
  7. Ridin' With The Driver
  8. Doctor Rock
  9. Orgasmatron

The studio extras include the “Orgasmatron & On The Road” rehearsal, a “Nothing Up My Sleeve” outtake, the “Doctor Rock & Ridin’ With The Driver” rehearsal, an alternate version of “Claw” and a “Mean Machine” outtake. On vinyl, these recordings share the third LP with the radio session; on CD, they follow the original album master on disc one.

The BBC session comprises “Killed By Death,” “Orgasmatron,” “Doctor Rock,” “Deaf Forever” and a spoken-word “Orgasmatron.” It follows Webb’s album remix on the second CD.
