NIGHT GAUNT have presented “The Deer and the Hunter” through a premiere at NoCleanSinging. The song is the second track revealed from Rupture, the Italian band's third album, announced through Aural Music.

The announcement places the song within an album developed through several years of revision. Compositions were stripped back, dismantled and rebuilt, with the record conceived for uninterrupted listening rather than as a collection of separate pieces.

According to the accompanying press material, doom metal provides the foundation for Rupture, alongside acoustic passages, folk melodies, post-punk and industrial elements. Its stated themes include memory, absence and emotional catharsis. The announcement describes the album as “a meditation on what survives after everything familiar has fallen apart.”

NIGHT GAUNT formed in Rome in 2013. The supplied background connects their music with doom, post-punk, dark folk and industrial influences, and describes performances across Italy and Europe preceding the new record. That background frames Rupture as the result of an extended period of musical reworking and personal change.

“Of Clouds and Gleam” preceded the current track and was accompanied by a video. The announcement also supplies the album cover and a ten-song sequence, with “The Deer and the Hunter” appearing sixth.
