Weight and atmosphere take precedence over speed on ‘Lightning Be Thy Guide,’ the second single from THE MOSAIC WINDOW’s forthcoming album Answered Prayers. Available now on all digital platforms, the mainly mid-tempo track follows lead single ‘What Sage Could Not Cleanse’ and presents a different aspect of the record’s black metal direction.
Answered Prayers arrives November 13, 2026. Metal Blade Records and Vesperian have opened pre-orders alongside the new single.
THE MOSAIC WINDOW is the solo project of Andrew Steven ‘Skeletonhammer’ Brown, also known for his work in BONE ABDUCTION. Active since 2020 and originating in Los Angeles, California, the project describes its style as existential black metal. Brown is credited with all instruments and vocals, with Dmitry Kim performing session drums.
The new album turns toward the first and second waves of black metal, emphasizing cold melodies and fast playing. That approach moves away from the polished, progressive-tinged combination of death and black metal heard on the project’s 2024 album, Hemasanctum. Within that shift, ‘Lightning Be Thy Guide’ emphasizes dynamics and atmosphere.
A nihilistic concept connects the album’s ten tracks: a poisoned world whose proposed cure is humanity’s retroactive erasure, centuries before the Industrial Revolution could begin.
Alex Sedin mixed and mastered Answered Prayers at Ghostalgy Productions. Session drummer Dmitry Kim’s credits include JINJER.
