For TURBO vocalist and guitarist Evan Frizzle, the middle section of “Formula One” stands out on the band’s third album, Listen… Shut Up!. The streaming single draws on his turbulent past and real-life run-ins with the law, connecting its speed metal approach to the record’s broader focus on consequences.
“It's another speedy locomotive of a track with great guitar work and a bunch of ear hooks. The middle train-beat comedown section might be one of my favorite parts on the whole album,” Frizzle says.
The Halifax, Nova Scotia quartet announced Listen… Shut Up! for October 23, 2026, on all digital platforms. It follows Fast as Fvck (2020) and Broke and Ugly (2024), with eight tracks examining the fallout from the lifestyle explored on those earlier records.
Frizzle describes the progression from a debut concerned with living in squalor to a second album carrying the feeling that the party would never end. “We're kind of thinking about this album as the hangover from all that,” he says. He considers the new material more mature and refined while retaining the band’s hard, fast and heavy approach.
“We like our music hard, fast, and raw, and that's the kind of experience we're trying to give other people. We want to give people the same kind of punch-in-the-gut, 'this rollercoaster is more than a bit too fast' feeling that we crave,” Frizzle explains.
The announcement describes “Kamikaze” as one of the record’s fastest tracks, “Don't Know Me” as self-reflective and “Deathwish Labyrinth” as a turn toward darker themes. “Slut Island” and “Best Wishes” emphasize attitude and energy, while “Tell Your Daughter” and “Black Wings of Revenge” explore a more nuanced side of the songwriting. “Formula One” closes the album.
TURBO formed in Halifax with musicians seeking to push further than they had in their previous bands. Their self-described Nitro-Rock combines speed metal, NWOBHM, sleaze rock, punk and glam metal, drawing influence from Motörhead, W.A.S.P., Judas Priest, Pantera and Kill Cheerleader.
Frizzle emphasizes a collective writing process: “Everything is for the good of the song. If it doesn't work, it's scrapped. We have no personal stake or ego when we write. The songs are 100% a collaborative effort.”
The announced lineup comprises Evan Frizzle on vocals and lead and rhythm guitar; Lindsey Dicks on lead and rhythm guitar and backing vocals; Donovan Saulnier on bass and backing vocals; and Sylvian Coderre on drums. The supplied band photograph is credited to Mason Paul.
