“When you hear it, you know you’re in Victoria’s universe,” says guitarist Rory Fitzsimmons of VICTORIA LIES. The Calgary, Canada band’s debut concept album, Vendetta, centers on a character whose story extends into choreography, prose and live performance. The announcement gives October 30, 2026 as the album’s release date through Black Cat Records.
Produced by VICTORIA LIES and Scott Bennett, Vendetta brings together melodic metalcore, groove metal and experimental elements. Trap beats, pop influences and saxophone sit within an approach that moves between heavy passages and more reflective moments, connected by the evolving mythology surrounding Victoria.
The narrative addresses abuse of power, violence against women, personal trauma, grief and revenge, alongside societal collapse and moral ambiguity. The band describes the project as a “constantly evolving universe,” with narrative turns shaping both the music and its theatrical presentation.
“We wanted to give listeners a journey,” says bassist Jay Powell. His statement emphasizes the storytelling and changes of direction intended to connect the album’s songs.
The supplied campaign material also includes music videos for “Truth and Sugar,” featuring Ari Grey, “Weaving Webs” and “Red.” “Truth and Sugar” is identified in the announcement as a song from Vendetta. The press material recommends the album to listeners of Bad Omens, Atreyu, AFI and Killswitch Engage.
Formed in 2023, VICTORIA LIES feature vocalist Brett Hetherington, drummer James Cuncannon, guitarists Chris Koehler and Rory Fitzsimmons, and bassist Jay Powell. Earlier singles include “Trial By Fire,” “…Ready for it?” and “Zerotonin,” which the announcement reports have earned thousands of streams.
The band’s performance history includes shows in Calgary, Drumheller, Lethbridge and Edmonton, as well as appearances at Gatorfest II and Decimate Metalfest. Those live activities accompany a storytelling approach that uses choreography and performance alongside the recorded music.
