Amidst the Ruins draws inspiration from a bygone era. On their fifth album, Saor merges black metal's raw intensity with Celtic folk’s heartfelt melodies. The title track weaves together melodic guitars, heavy bass lines and blast beats. As echoes of forgotten paths and crumbling relics of history unfold before your eyes, this song serves as a solemn reminder of a heritage lost amidst the modern world's clamor.

Saor will embark on a journey across the UK and Europe next year. The band will share their majestic new serenades with fans far and wide during the Amidst the Ruins 2025 tour.

  • Mörk Gryning Premiere Dystopian Symphony "Fasornas Tid"

From out of the shadows once more, Mörk Gryning have returned with a newly blackened opus.

These cultishly beloved lords of the Swedish black metal scene have been a blazing force in the underground since the early '90s. On their new album, Mörk Gryning refuse to yield to trends, honoring their feral countrymen by carving out raw, apocalyptic symphonies. Fasornas Tid is scrawled in the same sacred and bloody ink as their seminal debut, yet remains drenched in the visceral immediacy of the present.

Fasornas Tid comes out December 13th on Season of Mist, but you can hear all 12 savage songs today by listening to the full album stream on the Season of Mist YouTube channel.

Formed in the chilling embrace of '90s black metal, Mörk Gryning has always carved their own path, paying homage to their forebears while relentlessly pushing forward. Fasornas Tid - which in English means "The Time of Horrors" - dive bombs into a void inner turmoil, full of the insatiable hunger for self-destruction.  "Tornet" storms ahead with unbridled fury, featuring the savage vocals of C from AVSLUT, while the title track marks a return to the band's melodic roots in its relentless harmonies and breakneck tempos.

Both haunting and ferocious, Fasornas Tid paints a dystopian symphony reminiscent of Mörk Gryning's iconic debut Tusen år har gått…, yet is still unmistakably a product of the now. Mörk Gryning was founded in Stockholm, Sweden in 1993 by Goth Gorgon and Draakh Kimera. Two years later they released their debut album “Tusen År Har Gått” (1995), recorded and mixed at Unisound Studios, by legendary producer Dan Swanö and released by No Fashion. The album is one of the milestones of the ‘90s Swedish Black Metal scene.

The group returned to action in November 1996, working at Sunlight Studios together with Tomas Skogsberg and Dismember’s Fred Estby to craft the “Return Fire” album. Over the following years, three more albums were released, for example “Maelstrom Chaos” with new guitarist Avathar, a scene veteran, recorded at the legendary Grieghallen Studios Bergen, Norway.

Ever since the debut album, “Tusen år har gått…”, Mörk Gryning has refused to follow in the footsteps of others and walked their own paths – something which is made very clear on the 2003 release “Pieces of Primal Expressionism”, an experimental and heavy progressive release recorded at Dug Out, produced by Daniel Bergstrand. After a couple of years of touring and festival performances, the band was put on hold.

Returning to the scene again in 2017, the band performed an exclusive live show in Stockholm playing all the songs from the debut album and some other songs from the back catalogue. This ended in releasing the 4-song live record called “Live at Kraken”. During the pandemic the comeback album “Hinsides Vrede” was released to much critical acclaim with many of the songs today being the backbone of their live shows. A new album is scheduled for release in 2024 and the band is more active than ever.

  • Lord Of The Lost Join Savage Lands on Breathtaking New Single

As Savage Lands prove on their breathtaking new single,  metalheads aren't ones to back down from a fight. After witnessing how land developers are tearing down Costa Rica's rain forest, Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren and his old guitarist Sylvain Demercastel decided they weren't going to sit around and rust in peace. In 2022, they started Savage Lands, the music industry's first artist-run environmental non-profit.

Using the money that's generated by their music, Savage Lands has preserved 100,000 square feet of Costa Rican rain forest. 100% of the royalties from the organization's star-studded album, Army of the Trees, support their ongoing preservation projects in Costa Rica and other countries. But as they warn on their crushing new single with Lord Of The Lost and Chloe Trujillo, if we don't act fast and protect our ecosystems, then pretty soon, we won't just be out of time. We'll be out of breath.

Savage Lands' debut album introduces several new species of metalhead to their ecosystem. Eurovision’s darlings Lord Of The Lost spill their blood and glitter over the spiky riffs that puncture “Out of Breath”. Holding court over lead single “Ruling Queen” with her serpentine cleans and lioness roar is none other than Arch Enemy’s Alissa White-Gluz. “Now is the time to take a stand”, the band roar in a fierce rallying cry during the album’s climactic title track, backed by Julien Truchan from Benighted and other pillars from the French metal community.

“Our goals are attainable,” Sylvain and Dirk say. “By converting the land that we purchase into nature sanctuaries, Savage Lands will help set a precedent for environmental activism. But we must work together and quickly. Ecosystems are still under attack. If we don’t, then there won’t be any wildlife left to save”.

Raise your horns and join the Army of the Trees in support of the metal  non-profit.

  • CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX Premier New Cover Album

In light of the band's 20th anniversary, Crippled Black Phoenix are continuing their tradition of haunting homages. Horrific Honorifics Number Two (2) includes dark new covers that range from a faithfully fierce rendition of Fugazi's "Blueprint" to NoMeansNo, Deep Purple and Laura Branigan's Top 10 hit "Self Control".

Horrific Honorifics Number Two (2) is the second side of a new two-part compilation. The first revisits many of Crippled Black Phoenix's beloved endtime ballads. The Wolf Changes Its Fur But Not Its Nature  proves that this band stand the test of time. From the extended odyssey "Song For The Unloved" to lost classic "Whissendine", Justin Greaves (ex Iron Monkey and Electric Wizard), long-time vocalist Belinda Kordic and their trusted collaborators re-imagine their earliest introductions to the world.

"It's unfortunate that many bands put out comps as stop-gap releases between albums", wrote Blabbermouth in their 8/10 review. "This is far from the case with this double-album compilationThe covers are enjoyable and marked by Crippled Black Phoenix's singular stamp. But there is no doubt that the revitalized re-recordings on The Wolf Changes Its Fur But Not Its Nature are the comp's focal point, expressions that are so distinct from the originals that it's almost like new music altogether".

  • Retromorphosis Announce New Album 'Psalmus Mortis'

True legends never die, especially in death metal.

Having already reached unholy nirvana by their third album, in 2017, Spawn of Possession was put to rest. But like an especially pungent spore, the seeds of those most accursed influencers have been festering in their hallowed crypt, waiting to come alive and haunt the earth once again.

Such is the sordid backstory behind Retromorphosis. Jonas Bryssling and his Spawn of Possession bandmates have once again joined forces with ex-Obscura and Necrophagist guitarist Christian Muenzner. Only now, their proven chemistry explodes with even more deadly proficiency. They've added former Decrepit Birth drummer KC Howard to the equation, along with a few new, old-school bells and whistles.

With their first album, Retromorphosis emerge with the missing link in tech-death's evolutionary chain. Psalmus Mortis is almost a decade in the making, but its lead single "Vanished" shows that this band of fearsome players loom over metalheads' imaginations larger than ever.

Watch the haunting visualizer for "Vanished".

    https://youtu.be/m67EwWFp0GE

Psalmus Mortis comes out February 21 on Season of Mist.

Spawn of Possession had the final nail hammered into its coffin nearly a decade ago, but time has only accelerated the mutation of Retromorphosis. The first offering from Psalmus Mortis comes screaming out of the shadows before quickly settling in to a bone-crunching riff that reeks of the old school. "I prefer my death metal to sound ugly and mean", Bryssling says with a satisfied grin. "Vanished" was one of the first songs that Bryssling wrote after he hopped back on the death metal songwriting minotaur, but the band continued to tinker with album's lead single after the other eight tracks were smashed into shape.

"There was no hesitation", Bryssling says about respawning with his old bandmates as Retromorphosis. With "Vanished", it's not hard to see why. Muenzner's freakishly fast solos are not for the squeamish. At one point, Casperon's bass line breaks into a ghoulish bounce, whisking the songs cosmic body horror into the light. "Fading flesh, his skin turning translucent", Röndum roars with laughter. All of the tales on Psalmus Mortis will test your sanity, though this song officially opens the album with a tale that reads like a twisted mirror image of Dorian Gray.

"I don't have to tell them much", Bryssling continues. "They know how it's done".

So does their new drummer. "Everyone knows KC Howard is an insane talent", Bryssling says. Howard first etched his mark on the underground as the blistering heartbeat of Decrepit Birth. His non-stop pounding is the radioactive ooze that feeds Retromorphosis' frenzied nucleus. Even when "Vanished" slows to a crawl, his cymbal crashes and thunderous fills spell doom.

But Howard isn't the only new blood injected into Retromorphosis. Psalmus Mortis was produced by Magnus Sedenberg, who's been their Swedish engineer du jour dating back to SoP's first two demos. But while the band opted for more raw production, they fleshed out their technical arsenal with some unusual instruments of torture. Amidst all its unflinching punishment, "Vanished" is backlit by a ghostly choir and synths that glow like a portal into hell.

"We had rules in Spawn of Possession", Bryssling explains when asked what separates Retromorphosis from their first mutation. "Everything had to always be so intense. Retromorphosis is more free. Psalmus Mortis can be eerie, doomy, or even quite simple".

With "Vanished", one of the great legends of modern death metal reveal their gloriously grotesque new form.

The visualizer for "Vanished" was created by Riivata Visuals.
