  • Wrath of Logarius Don 'Crown of Mortis"

No matter what skeletal form they assume, Wrath of Logarius aren't bound by black metal's strict traditions. The band's debut album crowns them kings of a new realm for the underground: formless black metal.

"What a fresh perspective", Metal Bite writes in a 9/10 review for Crown of Mortis. "For every second's worth of savagery, you'll also take in striking melodic passages and slow-burning parts that feels as if you've been placed on the rack; relentlessly dragging the depths; turning up the filth of human existence with every dooming riff".

"For a debut album, the record is very concise, compact and fluid", says Pedro from A&P Reacts. "There's a little bit of everything pushing this record in different directions and that gives the sound a much richer texture than if it was just a black metal album".

Crown of Mortis comes out this Friday, April 4 on Season of Mist, but you can hear all nine boundless songs today by listening to the full album stream on the Season of Mist YouTube channel.

  • Nightfall Unleash Righteous Anger on "The Cannibal"

For more than 30 years, Nightfall have stood as a shining pillar for Greek metal.

Like darkness after sunset, the deadly Athenians rose through the underground alongside their current and former label mates Rotting Christ and Septicflesh. The band's monumental eleventh album is solidified by the most electrifying hooks and thunderous production in their pantheon-level discography. But while the latest single from Children of Eve scrapes across the sky with a stadium-shaking chorus, "The Cannibal" digs deeper into the powerful message that has always served as Nightfall's rallying cry.

"Our new single speaks to an insatiable fear that's been fueled by eons of catechism", says Nightfall's half-masked leader Efthimis Karadimas. "I hate the cannibal that lurks inside us, eating us alive from within".

  • The Great Old Ones Premiere 'Kadath'

It's been six long years since The Great Old Ones released their last cosmic chapter of Lovecraftian lore. Finally, the French band has returned with another batch of dark tales, though now with a new twist. On Kadath, the post-black scribes climb out of Cthulhu only to descend into the dark heart of the Dreamlands.

"Great stuff for metalheads who like their fiction the same way they like their metal - dark, heavy, and highly disturbing" Metal Trenches wrote in their 9/10 review of Kadath.

Kadath comes out tomorrow, Friday, January 24, but you can hear all seven transcendant songs today by listening to the full album stream on the Season of Mist YouTube channel.

On Kadath, The Great Old Ones draws the listener deeper into the dream-haunted world of Lovecraft's strapping young hero. Always one to keep his head in the clouds, Randolph Carter embarks on a mind quest through the treacherous Dreamlands. But as the divine gods of old would have it, his nocturnal journey springs to life with otherworldly perils that push him to the brink of insanity.

The two-part epic "Me, The Dreamer" opens the album like an accursed bout with insomnia, tossing and turning amidst raging riffs. Just as Carter glimpses the stoned visage of the Gods on Mount Ngranek, "In the Mouth of Madness" sucks him into the grip of the nightgaunts with unflinching blast beats.

"Climbing the huge stone steps, seeing yellowish-red eyes, I’m running under, under the sign of Koth" vocalist Benjamin Guerry wails on "Under the Sigh of Koth" as the band tear through the very fabric that dreams are made of.

Recorded under the vigilant eye of Francis Caste at Studio Sainte-Marthe, Paris, Kadath's production is nothing short of sorcerous. Each note and whispers are imbued with the power to transport the listener, offering an escape into an epic, immersive universe. Benjamin Guerry’s haunting vocals and guitars, alongside the mesmerizing contributions of Aurélien Edouard and Alexandre Rouleau on guitars, the deep resonance of Gregory Vouillat's bass, and the relentless assault of Julian Deana's drums, forge an album of unmatched emotional depth and technical prowess.

Thus, behold the latest chapter in their eldritch saga, Kadath - their unyielding quest to explore the outer margins of reality and imagination. An invitation to journey beyond the familiar, into a world of cosmic dread and awe-inspiring beauty, where the ancient gods still roam and dreams bleed into reality.

  • VLTIMAS Write Manifesto on New Video

This year, VLTIMAS are adding another devilish tale to their legend when they tour North America for the very first time. After three decades on the throne, even the most Satanic rulers are guilty of sitting back and admiring their dirty work. But VLTIMAS are still doing the devil's work. "Mephisto Manifesto" declares their unholy dominion over extreme metal. "I'm righting all their wrongs", Evil D growls with righteous disdain at his lesser demons. His captors may put a stop to his grand plan in the song's devious video, but the closing solo from Rune Eriksen seals the band's oath to extreme excellence in blood.

"We are teaming up with our metal brothers Septicflesh and Ex Deo for VLTIMAS' first-ever North American Tour next month", says David Vincent. "We look we look forward to sharing our strength and misery with our friends and fans. This indeed will be EPIC!"

The video for "Mephisto Manifesto" was produced by 9LITER FILMY (www.9lf.pl). It was written and directed by Błażej Jankowiak.VLTIMAS brought Italian artist Daniele Valeriani (Mayhem, Unanimated) to visualize EPIC. The aesthetic, as illuminated by music and message, was iconic boldness. The three-eagle head crest with three different crowns, accompanied by transfigured symbols of the Passion and the "impossible triangle," projects effortlessly. In EPIC, the group will dominate. There's no escape from "Miserere," "Mephisto Manifesto," "Scorcher," and "Invictus." Together, they thrust, by resolve and inventiveness, VLTIMAS into the uppermost echelons of extreme metal.

"[EPIC is] old meets contemporary, a symbiosis of all the great things we love about extreme metal," offers Eriksen. "All combined into one album."

"I want to be as emotional and honest [with VLTIMAS]," Vincent adds. "I want to tell stories; I want to have the themes that appeal to me; I want to have some messaging that someone can take away, in this case, strength. EPIC is strength."

  • NITE Announce New Album 'Cult of the Serpent Sun'

When darkness descends, NITE flies high with blackened heavy metal.

After venturing through space on their last album, NITE has returned to face the shadowy mythology that lay dormant beneath society's underbelly. Each of the eight epic battles on Cult of the Serpent Suntests the band's mettle. But amidst their new album's winding perils, NITE emerges triumphant. Lead single "Crow (Fear the Night)" is a rallying cry, calling for fists to rise with power and might.

Cult of the Serpent Sun comes out March 14, 2025 on Season of Mist.

Ever since they banded together out of San Francisco's underground in 2018, NITE has carried the torch for Bay Area metal. On Cult of the Serpent Sun, these four heavy metal avengers triple down on their classic arsenal. "Crow (Fear the Night)" swoops into the heat of battle with talons drawn. Like two birds of the same feather, the duel leads of Van Labrakis and Scott Hoffman climb on the back of drummer Patrick Crawford's foundation-shaking march.

Cult of the Serpent Sun carries a "more-is-more" philosophy, guided by what NITE garnered on the road. Since their last studio stint, the band have stormed the stage at Northwest Terror Fest, toured California with fellow statesmen Persekutor and Haunt and marched across the Southwest on the road to Hell's Heroes VI.

"Fans really responded to older songs like 'Acheron' and 'Genesis'", Labrakis says. "Cult of the Serpent Sun has more songs that are fast and upbeat and help lift people's spirits".

Cult of the Serpent Sun also sharpens NITE's signature edges with fresh venom. "We play a traditional style of heavy metal, but the blackened element takes us in a different direction", Labrakis says. His road-hardened voice strikes fear into the album's serpentine foes. "Fear the night", he warns, backed by bassist Avinash Mittur, who wields his bruising Rickenbacker with a spike-gloved fist.

"'Crow (Fear the Night)' is a call to those on the edge, a beckoning cry out of the shadows into the light", says NITE. "The headbanging masses band together under a sinister banner, leaving exile and finding themselves stronger as the cult of the serpent sun rises".

The video for "Crow (Fear the Night)" was directed by Marcelle Marais (Marcellemarais.com).
