Pomi - "California Roll" Official Music Video

Artist City, State, Country: San Jose, California, U.S.A.

Artist Bio: I am Pomi, a 20-year-old rapper, from the Bay Area. I’ve grown up in a small town a couple miles south of San Francisco called Pacifica. I started making music at a very young age. My dad got me my first drum kit when I was six and I started taking lessons which eventually lead me into playing in a band while in high school. At age twelve, I started writing lyrics and trying to rap. In the beginning I was very heavily influenced by artists like Eminem, Dr. Dre, and Lil Wayne. I wrote all about the things that were going on in my home and in my head but way too scared to ever release my lyrics. The fear of judgement and not being good enough destroyed any chance I had at going out and trying to start anything. In high school, I searched for a way to fit in, at first it was cross country running, then playing in a band, but I finally started feeling like I belonged somewhere when I found drugs and alcohol. It felt as they gave me the strength I always needed to be completely be free. Despite my best thinking, I became involved with the wrong things and by what would have been senior year, I was dropout, IV drug addict, and had no one left around me. I had a myself in hole, that I believed I could never get out of. As a result of starting to recover from that, I have finally been able to start putting out my music. Making honest and truthful music about the way I feel has been and will continue to be one of the biggest driving forces in my recovery. I strongly believe that one one of the largest contributing factors of my addiction was not being willing to tell anyone what was going on with me. I was unable to ask for help, trying to face my addiction on my own. Music, even in my addiction, was always something I could go back to and it always gave me comfort, reminding me that I am not alone. It gave me the hope that maybe there was someone else who had been in the same place as me. Today I create my music to tell my truth in hopes that I can build a connection with another struggling person. Music is why I am here, what I do, and how I process the world around me.
