I was watching Star Wars (Rebels) when something suddenly hit me, like a sharp headache. I felt compelled to grab the bass and start playing the riff that had been stuck in my head.
I had recorded some of the takes for the lyric video we made for the track, but some of them were too close together, and I personally didn’t see the performance. I assume no one else will either. In any case, this was the idea I had in mind.
It wasn’t anything overly complicated, but I had to have that persistent beat like the old Slayer songs from “South of Heaven album.” That’s how it started, and then the continuation was just the pure feeling of the beat.
I always try to complement the guitar parts and make them interesting, but in the end, I’m a drummer and a bassist, so even though I get the job done, I’m not Marty Friedman or Dave Mustaine to make the guitars shine in a better way. But the way they are here is just fine.
When I showed it to Sr. Diaz, he said he listened to it in a row for a couple of times and then woke up with the story in his head. I asked him if this song was going to be in the first person, and he said yes, that’s the idea of a werewolf all alone. :)
This is the bass part of the track “Under the Moonlight” by Quemasantos.
