The title track from TORII’s forthcoming seventh album, Despaire, is streaming now as its first single. The album arrives December 18, following a five-year wait.
Bill Masino handles all instruments, programming, lyrics, artwork and vocals for the solo project. On Despaire, TORII moves away from its black metal beginnings toward post-metal, death-doom and doom, with psychedelic elements shaping the album’s musical direction.
Edmund Spenser’s poem The Faerie Queene provides inspiration for the record. The announcement describes an album moving through dreams and nightmares, concerned with overcoming darkness and making the most of the time that remains before death.
The release presents that subject through a range of emotions and intensity. For listeners seeking reference points, the announcement names Yob, Pallbearer, Morne and Cult of Luna.
Despaire contains ten tracks, with its title-track single appearing eighth in the sequence. An album pre-save is also available.
