Roots and Aura will form the focus of SAOR’s first performance in Chile. The Scottish project led by multi-instrumentalist Andy Marshall will play Sala RBX in Santiago on Wednesday, February 24, 2027, revisiting the early compositions that brought together atmospheric black metal and Scottish folk.
The concert belongs to the Latin America Tour 2027, SAOR’s first tour of the region, which also includes performances in Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Mexico. The Santiago repertoire will be dedicated to Roots (2013) and Aura (2014); the announcement does not describe full-album performances.
Marshall’s return to this material also extends to Caledonia (2026). The record revisits five compositions from Roots, Aura and Guardians through new recordings produced by Chris Fielding. Songs included in that project are “Aura,” “The Awakening” and “Carved in Stone.”
SAOR began in Glasgow in 2013, initially under the name Àrsaidh. Marshall serves as its principal composer and performer, working with guest musicians on recordings and a live lineup for concerts. The current name means “free” in Scottish Gaelic. Marshall calls the music “Caledonian Metal,” referring to its connections with Scotland’s history, nature and cultural heritage.
That approach combines tremolo guitars, harsh vocals and drums with violins, traditional flutes and bagpipes. Extended compositions and shifts in tempo place those elements alongside quieter passages, an arrangement characteristic present in the project’s earliest recordings and central to the period covered by the Santiago set.
Following the first two albums, SAOR’s discography continued with Guardians (2016), Forgotten Paths (2019), Origins (2022) and Amidst the Ruins (2025). Neige of Alcest contributed guest vocals to the song “Forgotten Paths.”
