  • MASSACRE Releases "Mythos", New EP

Floridian death metal juggernauts, MASSACRE have released their new EP, "Mythos," via Nuclear Blast.

In case it was missed, MASSACRE recently revealed a new single from "Mythos" titled "Behind The Serpent's Curse,"  which features Anders Odden (CADAVER). Purchase/Stream "Mythos": https://bfan.link/Massacre-Mythos

Commenting on the EP, vocalist Kam Lee says:

"'Mythos' is MASSACRE in its true form. Forget the imitations this is the real deal. These tracks represent the band in its proper self. Representative of true old school death metal and the music on this EP represents the core of the band's true sound. This is what the band is and was always meant to be, and now that I'm in the captain's chair I'll make sure the core of the band shall remain as such".

MASSACRE rose from the swamps of Southern Florida in the early 80's during a heatwave of groundbreaking death metal that produced some of the genre's most revered forefathers, DEATH, OBITUARY and SIX FEET UNDER. Their legacy was founded with a string of classic demos, "Aggressive Tyrant" (1986), "Chamber of Ages" (1986) and "The Second Coming" (1990), before unleashing their critically praised classic debut album "From Beyond" (1991). In 2021, the band made their long-awaited return with "Resurgence." Invigorated with the same youthful rage that brought them together at inception, long-time members, vocalist Kam Lee (MANTAS, BONE GNAWER, THE GROTESQUERY) and bassist Mike Borders, were joined in the studio by some of death's most prolific and malignant songwriters, guitarist Rogga Johansson (PAGANIZER, MEGASCAVENGER, RIB SPREADER), guitarist Jonny Pettersson (WOMBBATH, NATTRAVNEN, HENRY KANE), guitarist Scott Fairfax (MEMORIAM, AS THE WORLD DIES) and drummer Brynjar Helgetun (CRYPTICUS, THE GROTESQUERY) with additional guest performances by Marc Grewe (INSIDIOUS DISEASE), Dave Ingram (BENEDICTION), Anders Odden (CADAVER), and Pete Slate (DRUID LORD) The record was recorded with producer and death metal icon Dan Swanö (ex-Edge of Sanity, ex-Bloodbath) and Pettersson as engineer/mixer.

Now only a year later, MASSACRE emerges from the swamps again for the brutally devastating EP, "Mythos." Picking up where they left off on "Resurgence," the band lays waste with Lovecraftian inspired lyrics and searing death metal riffs.

  • UK Thrashers RIPTIDE release debut EP “MASTERS OF THE APOCALYPSE”

UK thrashers RipTide, [fronted by EVILE guitarist Adam Smith] have released their debut EP “Masters of the Apocalypse”. The 36-minute-long EP contains 6 tracks featuring re-recordings and masters of the original RipTide demos.

Adam Smith (Lead Vocalist and Guitarist) comments...

“After a hell of a long time, we are incredibly stoked to finally release ‘Masters of the Apocalypse’ as an EP, having changes in the Line-Up, multiple lockdowns, and settling in with EVILE. We are stoked to finally complete this record which consists of the first batch of songs from when we first started out. After playing these songs live over the years, and the incredible response we had at Bloodstock Festival last year, we chose these six songs as they represent mostly what the band has been doing over the years.

I have had the vision of ‘Masters of the Apocalypse’ ever since the band’s inception back in 2018.  The artwork was made in 2018 and was used to promote the band with scrims and merchandise, we knew that it was too good to just use on a demo single or something, so we held on to it and saved it for this moment. It was a vision that I had inspired by apocalyptic landscapes in media such as Stranger Things, The Last of Us, and even stuff like Shadow the Hedgehog [.

We wanted a 3rd person view of the backs of these ‘masters’ (world leaders/powerful people), who are the only ones left in this alternate world, looking over the remains of the city which was ultimately caused by greed, money and power etc... the vision was made into reality by the incredible Ania Bodziarczyk, who did an even better job than I could have ever imagined.

I am also incredibly proud of my bro Sean [bass player of RipTide] for producing/co-producing this record! The quality of this recording is incredible and is for me, the highlight of this record!

Sean Xavier (Bassist and main producer) continues...

“When we first originally started recording these tracks, we were very young and didn’t really know much about how to make a record, we went to a couple of different studios to record but we were unhappy with both the quality of playing and the  early production wasn’t what we wanted, this coupled with covid, Adam joining Evile, and Tommy joining RipTide, delayed the release significantly, but we persevered and made the best recording we could possibly make! I am incredibly happy with the way the EP has turned out and with each recording we do, myself and the band get better and better! We have just finished tracking guitars for our next release which will be out in the next couple of months! So, keep your eyes peeled for that!

    Adam concludes...

“Masters of the Apocalypse” has been a long time in the making and is the finale to the long journey we have all been on! It’s conception and production has been a team effort between all of the guys in the band and the fans, for pushing us to finish this! It is a group of songs that we are all incredibly proud of and I hope everyone enjoys it as much as we do.

The relentless new EP is available to listen to right now on all major streaming services and has limited CD copies available on their official merch store.

  • SACRED OATH, ‘One Night Only’ in NYC.

Currently celebrating “A Crystal Vision” with their 35th Anniversary Tour, Sacred Oath announced yesterday that they will be performing a special ‘one night only’ concert in New York with Attacker and the recently reunited all-female thrash band Meanstreak.  All three bands were signed to the Mercenary Records label in 1987 and released their debut albums just prior to the label folding in 1989.  This is the first time all three bands will perform on the same stage together.

“I heard about the Meanstreak reunion and reached out to Rena (Petrucci) right away,” said Rob Thorne of Sacred Oath.  “I thought a ‘Mercenary Records Night’ would be a cool show, and it looks like this will be the very first show for Meanstreak in almost 30 years.  We’re excited about the whole thing, all of it.”

Sacred Oath (CT), Meanstreak (NY), and Attacker (NJ) were up-and-coming bands to watch in 1988, frequently playing the NYC metro area metal clubs such as L’Amour and Streets.  The Manhattan-based Mercenary Records signed each of them and released their debut albums worldwide via Celluloid before folding in 1989.  Sacred Oath and Attacker have continued to perform and release albums since then, but Meanstreak broke up in 1994.  A reunion was announced in early 2022.

“Of course we’ll be playing through the entire “A Crystal Vision” album at this show,” says Thorne.  “The whole evening will be a trip down metal memory lane.  I can’t wait.”

The show is happening Saturday August 27th  6:00 pm at Sovereign, 173 Morgan Ave in Brooklyn, NY and tickets are now on sale and available HERE:

  • CANDLEMASS at LPRNYC 06/08/22

Once again, happy to be a metalhead and to be alive for moment like this one.

I’ve been listening to Candlemass since 1990 approximately and always i’ve been blown away by  their slow pace music that push you forward and just experienced it for the first time at LPRNYC last night.

It was solid. I mean it. They played their classics and some new ones and all of them sounded huge and majestic. It felt like a special show where everyone knew what was happening on stage.

Happy to have the luck to see the bands that have always something to add to this on going growth of the genre.
