KINETIC examine the decision to leave physical existence behind in their new music video for “Digital Mind.” Directed by Marcus H. Levin, it is the third of three videos from the Danish progressive metal band's debut full-length album, Liminal, released October 16, 2026, through Eclipse Records.
The announcement describes a future in which human consciousness can move into a virtual network. Keyboardist Marcus explains that the band's progressively distorted appearance represents that passage: “The central visual symbol throughout the video is the band itself gradually glitching and distorting digitally. This represents the slow transition from a physical state into a digital one, mirroring the transformation taking place within the story.”
His explanation also connects the opening sequence to the character's decision. Old photographs and memories become part of the transition, rather than simply a record of the life being left behind. “At the beginning, the main character is seen looking through old photographs and memories. This represents him coming to terms with his decision to leave the physical world behind and upload his consciousness into the digital realm,” Marcus says. “The memories themselves begin to glitch, suggesting that the decision has already been made on some level – and that the digital world is beginning to lure him in.”
“Digital Mind” follows the album's earlier videos for “Evolution” and “Dyson.” Its technological subject sits within the broader narrative of Liminal, which connects its songs through an overarching storyline. According to the Eclipse Records announcement, the album draws musical and lyrical inspiration from the Kardashev Scale, astrophysicist Nikolai Kardashev's framework for measuring a civilization's technological advancement through the energy it can harness.
The announcement describes KINETIC's approach as emphasizing cinematic arrangements and long-form compositions over conventional verse-chorus structures, allowing the music to develop alongside the narrative's scientific and philosophical themes. Liminal follows the band's debut EP, Sentience, issued in 2025, and marks their debut on the Eclipse Records roster.
Frederik Uglebjerg produced, engineered, mixed and mastered Liminal. Lasse H. Görlitz and Marcus H. Levin created the album's cover art.
The eleven-track running order is “Beginnings,” “Evolution,” “New Frontiers,” “Type 0.75,” “Fermi,” “Progress to One,” “Dyson,” “Journey to the Stars,” “Digital Mind,” “2 to Five” and “Omega.”
