BONEYARD released their second album, Black Static, on October 23, 2026, digitally and on CD. Following the singles “Before the Fall,” “Compass Points to War” and “Hanging Tree,” the record is the Canadian hard rock and melodic metal band’s first full release featuring bassist Lezzy Osbourne and lead guitarist Garhardt. A vinyl release remains to be announced.
Drummer Jefftimus describes the album as a continuation of the group’s debut with a different songwriting dynamic. “Black Static is an extension of Oathbreaker, featuring another diverse collection of songs while showcasing the unique contributions of Lezzy and Garhardt. The new lineup and album are quite different from Oathbreaker, and we're excited for fans to hear where the band has gone,” he says in the announcement distributed by Asher Media Relations.
The album lineup comprises Pamtera on lead vocals and guitar, Lezzy Osbourne on bass, Jefftimus on drums and Garhardt on lead guitar. The announcement identifies influences from 1980s hard rock and heavy metal alongside 1990s punk and rock. “We wanted to create something that bridges modern female-fronted hard rock with traditional heavy metal,” Jefftimus explains.
The previously released singles also establish distinct narrative settings. “Hanging Tree” uses a tongue-in-cheek Western story involving outlaws, gunfights and gallows humor. “Compass Points to War” centers on maritime combat, with gang vocals and pirate warfare forming part of its musical and lyrical presentation.
“Before the Fall” addresses corruption, inequality, war and exploitation while retaining a message of unity and hope for future generations. Its accompanying video focuses on human trafficking and missing and murdered Indigenous persons. These subjects sit within a broader album whose songs address abusive relationships, addiction, homelessness, mental health and grief.
“Pamtera and I often draw inspiration from painful personal experiences as well as difficult collective issues like human trafficking and deteriorating mental health. At the same time, we always try to weave hope and positivity into those stories,” Lezzy says.
“Left Me to Drown” draws on Lezzy’s experiences with toxic and abusive relationships, using a pirate-ship metaphor to tell a story of survival and transformation. “Not This Way (Joel’s Song)” concerns schizophrenia, addiction and homelessness. According to the announcement, it is inspired by the true story of a man named Joel and is told from his grieving mother’s perspective.
The nine-track running order is “Met You in a Dream,” “Left Me to Drown,” “Ready for a Change,” “Not this Way (Joel's Song),” “Blood in the Bond,” “Before the Fall,” “Hanging Tree,” “Compass Points to War” and “Before the Fall (Piano Rendition).”
Calgary artist Tom Bagley created the album artwork, returning after his work on Oathbreaker. The cover features the band’s mascot, Misty Bone. “We give Tom a concept involving Misty Bone, and he always hits it out of the park,” Jefftimus says.
Pamtera and Jefftimus founded BONEYARD in 2015. Their independently released debut, Oathbreaker, subsequently received an international re-release through Italy’s WormHoleDeath Records in 2022, including distribution in Japan. The group has performed across Western Canada and shared stages with 96 Bitter Beings, KingDoom and Deadwolff. The current announcement also notes that the lineup includes a Métis drummer and a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
