DREAM UNENDING give performances more space on Certain Uncertainties

release artwork

Fewer instrumental layers and a more immediate approach to performance shape Certain Uncertainties, the third album from DREAM UNENDING. Released October 30, 2026 through 20 Buck Spin, the six-track record features Justin DeTore on drums and vocals and Derrick Vella on guitars and bass.

Vella also plays in Tomb Mold, while DeTore’s other bands include Innumerable Forms, Sumerlands and Magic Circle. Across their first two albums, DREAM UNENDING combined death doom with progressive rock, ambient music and jazz-informed improvisation. The announcement describes the new record as leaner and rougher around the edges, with a nocturnal atmosphere and more room for individual performances.

Vella’s guitar work draws on blues, jazz, progressive music and American roots music. DeTore’s drums remain present throughout, supporting a more physical momentum and economical compositions. The opening and closing tracks build toward heavier climaxes, while the intervening passages leave room for guitar parts to wander and respond. The supplied album description connects the songs through images of Western landscapes, dim rooms and empty roads.

Instability and reconstruction inform the record’s emotional context. It was written during a period when Vella was rebuilding his confidence in taking risks. The announcement places the balladry of “I Carry Your Burden,” the title track’s improvisational approach and the heavier death doom passages within that shared concern, allowing doubt, beauty and discomfort to coexist.

Several guests contribute to specific songs. The title track features trumpet from Leila Abdul-Rauf of Vastum and additional percussion by Benny Grotto. Dave Vella supplies keys on “Rubato,” and Brendan Radigan of Magic Circle and Pagan Altar contributes vocals to “I Carry Your Burden.”

Arthur Rizk recorded the drums at Solomon’s Gate, except for “Certain Uncertainties,” which Benny Grotto recorded at Mad Oak Studios. Sean Pearson recorded guitars and bass at Boxcar Sound. Rizk also mixed and mastered the album, with additional editing by Tom Waltz.

Benjamin Vierling created the cover artwork, and Chimere Noire handled the layout. Vierling’s supplied credits include DREAM UNENDING, Joanna Newsom and Pallbearer. The album’s announced formats are LP, CD, cassette and digital, with the announcement directing orders to 20 Buck Spin’s webshop and Bandcamp.
