The Death Metal Promotion YouTube channel is streaming all eight tracks of Cenotaph Severance, the fifth full-length from TEMPLE NIGHTSIDE. The stream accompanies the album's announced October 30 international release through Iron Bonehead Productions on CD and vinyl LP.
The quartet's lineup includes incoming guitarist Ignus Fatuus, whose background includes PORTAL, IMPETUOUS RITUAL and GRAVE UPHEAVAL. The announcement places the new material in continuity with Pillars of Damnation, emphasizing tightly executed riffs alongside the band's atmospheric death metal.
In describing Cenotaph Severance, the press release points to a pronounced black metal atmosphere and a return to the bestial elements heard on the 2011 demo Prophecies of Malevolence. Its account of the production pairs a heavy sound with an ethereal quality, framing the album around both impact and space.
IV founded TEMPLE NIGHTSIDE in 2010 after extensive involvement in the Australian black metal underground. The project began as an exploration of blackened, old-school death metal under the self-description “Ritualistic Death Metal Necromancy,” before developing a more atmospheric, cavernous approach heard on The Hecatomb in 2016.
The band's subsequent releases also revisited its beginnings. Recondemnation, issued in 2018, reimagined the 2013 debut Condemnation. Pillars of Damnation followed in 2020 with a tighter approach that the announcement describes as more anthemic. A period without new recordings and with only a few shows preceded Cenotaph Severance.
