Metalshop pairs a featured interview with PHIL SOUSSAN and the premiere of his second single, “The More You Take,” on episode 2644, announced for October 31. The track appears on his forthcoming four-song EP, Cosmo Fighter Part One, due November 13 through BraveWords Records.
Charlie Kendall of Metalshop highlighted the bassist, songwriter and producer’s work across multiple projects, saying, “Phil seems to be a tireless force of nature, always balancing multiple projects with grace and his remarkable creativity. Cosmo Fighter Part One is just the beginning of something remarkable.”
The EP took shape during a rare break from touring. According to the announcement, time off the road prompted PHIL SOUSSAN to return to writing and recording. Its accompanying description frames the music around questions about how listeners see the world and the background noise of modern society.
PHIL SOUSSAN wrote, recorded and produced the material, handling all instruments and vocals except the guitar solos on “Please Don’t Make Me Wait,” contributed by Richie Kotzen. He also mixed and mastered the EP at Blue Cat Studios in Las Vegas.

British-born PHIL SOUSSAN studied classical violin and composition during his school years in London, including a performance at a private classical concert for Queen Elizabeth II. His subsequent performing credits include work with Ozzy Osbourne, Jimmy Page, Billy Idol, Vince Neil, Johnny Hallyday, Steve Lukather, Edgar Winter and John Waite. He currently plays bass in LAST IN LINE.
His songwriting credits include “Shot in the Dark,” featured on Ozzy Osbourne’s 1986 album The Ultimate Sin, alongside co-writing work on Vince Neil’s Exposed and Steve Lukather’s LUKE. He also wrote and arranged “After You’re Gone,” the opening track on Toto’s Mindfields.
Recalling the connection that brought him to Jimmy Page, PHIL SOUSSAN said: “As a member of Simon Kirke’s band on Swan Song Records we were managed by Peter Grant; that connection led to an invitation for me to play with Jimmy Page, who was in the process of igniting what was to become The Firm.” He subsequently received a call from Ozzy Osbourne asking him to audition after a one-off live television appearance with another artist.
