SCALDING's debut album Exordium has received its first vinyl release through Hypaethral Records, with the band's Skull Collapse EP included in the reissue. Originally issued digitally in 2022, the album is out now on limited-edition vinyl and CD.
Guitarist/vocalist SM traces the material back to writing sessions before the band's formation. In the announcement distributed by EARSPLIT PR, SM recalls: “Re-releasing Exordium brings back a lot of memories for me. From writing these songs under lock down back in 2020, to playing our first shows in 2022, this was an incredibly exciting time for SCALDING. It felt like we truly created something special out of nothing, and people were taking notice right from the get-go.”
SM also addresses the expanded physical edition: “I'm honored to have Exordium released on vinyl for the first time, and with the Skull Collapse EP songs included on this release as well. This is the perfect encapsulation of SCALDING's first chapter.”
The vinyl edition is limited to 200 copies on Graphite Vinyl, ECO. The CD edition is also limited to 200 copies and comes as a pro-pressed disc in a four-panel digipak. Physical orders are available through Hypaethral Records, while the announcement directs listeners to the label's Bandcamp album page for streaming and digital orders.
Founded in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 2021, SCALDING draw on Scandinavian second-wave black metal alongside death metal, crust and traditional heavy metal. The supplied release description emphasizes contrasts between aggressive passages, atmosphere, harmony and melody. Those elements informed the band's 2022 debut and remain the musical context for this reissue.
The announcement also notes SCALDING's performances alongside Uada, Rotting Christ, Antichrist Siege Machine, Abbath and Pig Destroyer. The listed lineup comprises SM on guitar and vocals, JD on drums, JM on bass and vocals, and AS on lead guitar.
The supplied ten-track running order is “Exordium,” “As Darkness Descends To Chaos,” “The Gate,” “Baku’s Realm,” “Exhaustion,” “Asunder,” “The Great Unknown,” “Back To The Grave,” “Skull Collapse” and “Exordium (Acoustic).”
