The full stream of HERZOG’s Mugwort is available on the Black Metal Promotion YouTube channel. The Belgian act’s second and final album documents Asgeir Amort’s final year, with his own voice heard in the first part and his wife Isa Myling carrying his words forward in the second.
Amor Fati Productions announced an international October 26 release on CD and vinyl LP. The complete album stream was shared ahead of that date.
Composition began in 2024. The accompanying announcement describes Amort approaching the work with optimism, a desire to create and plans for the future. In 2025, persistent pain led to the discovery of a collapsed vertebra and a diagnosis of aggressive kidney cancer.
Repeated surgeries sought to preserve his mobility, but the interventions failed. Amort became paralysed from the chest down, with increasing numbness and only months left to live. Completing Mugwort became his central focus during that time.
The announcement presents the album as an account of shock, pain and the loss of the future he had imagined. Its themes also encompass struggle, love, resilience, perseverance and finding strength in the present. It describes Amort’s response to his illness in terms of acceptance and defiance, while remembering his joy and wit and the love surrounding him at the end of his life.
That account continues through a change of voice within the record. The second part was written after cancer had affected Amort’s diaphragm, and Myling carries his words forward. The announcement describes her contribution as “a lament, a continuation, a final act of love.”
